These figures in stone, this lady and bird, dream of taking flight.  They dream of one day being able to break free from their stillness, ascending into the sky that is opening up before them.  I found this wonderful statue in the Wisconsin State Capitol Building in Madison, WI several years ago.  In a later visit to Madison, I went to the Capitol Building looking for this statue and others that I had photographed earlier, but I couldn't find them anywhere.  There was renovation going on at the time, so maybe those areas were closed off during that visit, or maybe  ...just maybe  ...the stone figures had finally realized their dream and ascended to the heavens.
